Preparatory courses in LS 2023/24

Dear students, dear interested members of the public,

The British Council Examination Centre at the VŠPJ organises preparation courses for two levels of Cambridge English examinations each year. We strive to prepare really high quality courses in which we focus thoroughly on practising all the language skills that are required not only for the Cambridge English exams. We hope to help you gain one of Cambridge's internationally recognised certificates, or at least deepen your English language skills.

• 1. Exam Strategies - Cambridge exam preparation courses - short term (4 hours)

When will the courses take place?

Courses will take place in the building of the Polytechnic College Jihlava (16 Tolstého Street).


Speaking course - 27 April 2024 at 8:30 am in classroom J1

Course Reading Use of English - 4. 5. 2024 from 8:30 in classroom J1

Writing Course - 5/18/2024 at 8:30 a.m. in Room J1

Listening course - June 1, 2024 at 8:30 a.m. in room J1

What are the prices of the courses?

The course opens with a minimum of 5 students in a group.
All courses have a single price = 550 CZK per module (Writing / Reading / Speaking / Listening). 1 module lasts 4 hours.
Course payment details will be sent to you after the electronic application form is received.

Annotation of the course

The aim of the course is to equip potential candidates with effective exam strategies as well as to help them get a better understanding of exam tasks. Within the course, candidates will learn how to write an academic essay and find out the difference between a report, a proposal and other genres. In addition, they will try their hand at writing and will be provided with a list of advanced discourse markers, linkers and model answers. Together with that, we will have a closer look at other parts of the exam, such as reading, listening and speaking. Candidates will be introduced to various techniques and strategies that will be immediately put into practice. On top of that, all course participants will get access to lists of advanced topic-related vocabulary, keyword transformation patterns, speaking guidelines and many more.

• 2. Cambridge exam preparation courses - long term (2-3 semesters)

When will the courses take place?

Courses will take place in the building of the Polytechnic College Jihlava (16 Tolstého Street).

PET/FCE(level B1/B2) - from Wednesday 28 February 2024 15:00-16:30, classroom U1

CAE-Z Beginners(level C1) - not taking place

CAE-P continuing(C1 level) - from Monday 26 February 2024 16:00-17:30, Room U8

Times can be adjusted to suit the needs of individual groups by agreement between the tutor and the group.

What are the prices for the courses?
Courses open with a minimum of 5 students per group.
All courses have a uniform price - 5,600 CZK per semester (15 weeks).
We do not require payment in advance. You have 2 weeks to decide whether the course suits you. At the same time, you have the opportunity to take free exam exam-attemp and a 400 CZK discount on the official exam.

What will be required of you?

• To take the placement test. Approximate scores for entry to the courses: PET: 32-39; FCE: 40-48; CAE: 47-52. A tutor can help you with placement in a particular group, including a no-obligation class visit.
• actively take 90 or 120 minutes per week of direct instruction - ideal time for exam preparation is individualized according to the candidate's entry level, usually 2-3 semesters
• minimum 120 minutes home preparation per week
• providing textbook, printing or copying materials on a home printer
